What didn’t go wrong this weekend. Let’s see, where do I begin? I suppose the fun started on Saturday when I attempted to install the new time clock that I have been working on for work. Everything seemed to be working ok until I tried to hook up the computer that the program would live on. It was then that I realized that the computer did not have USB which presented a problem because the touch screen uses USB to relay the position of the touches. So I drove up to Massillon and bought a PCI USB card. When I got back to the store and tried to install it, the computer froze every time the driver was almost done installing. As a last resort I tried to reinstall windows, and even then with the card installed, the computer froze on startup. So I gave up and went home. On Sunday I went to church and then headed back to the store with my own computer to finish the timeclock. I eventually got everything working like I thought it should and moved on to doing my order for the week. I got about eight feet down the dog food aisle and the order machine died on me. The battery wasn’t charged. So I had to piddle around for half an hour while the order machine recharged enough for me to finish my order. While I was wasting time I noticed that the Ice cream case alarm was sounding. The temperature was only 10 degrees, so I figured it was only in a long defrost. I proceeded to finish my order and finished around 10:00 PM. As I was leaving I looked at the ice cream case temperature and noticed that it had actually risen. In looking at the past history it looked like it might still be in defrost, so I went home, intending to check on it from home. At about 11:15, I checked again. The temperature had continued to rise since 10:00. My Dad went in around 11:30 and found that the compressor was not running at all and kept triping a breaker. He called the refrigeration people and they arrived around 12:30 AM. They weren’t there more than 10 minutes when they declared the compressor dead. My dad called around 12:40 to tell me we were emptying the case. April and I went in and were there until 2:30 AM emptying all the ice cream. I got home around 3:15 and went straight to bed. I went to work around 8:30 to find several problems waiting for me. Some program had popped itself on top the timeclock, leaving it so that it would not accept punches. The new computer I put at the scanning coordinator’s desk had problems and she was not thrilled about that. In the end I fixed everything that was waiting for me and headed home early to celebrate the 4th with April and her family. Tomorrow, they are supposed to be replacing the compressor and in addition our sales councelor from the warehouse is coming down to inform us how to use the new order machine and other changes that are going on. It should be much fun!
