About half an hour ago, I was sitting here and the scanner went off. They said Brewster had a dumpster fire at fifth and Wabash. They already had the tanker out doing something so both it and the engine went up there to see what was up. They couldn’t find anything, so the dispatcher asked the caller for better information, they said it was behind Sturms (no longer called Sturms, but previously featured in a prior blog), which is not at fifth and Wabash, it’s more like fourth and Wabash. They brought the engine down the alley behind our house and checked out their dumpster, which wasn’t on fire either. They poked around the building and found that a trash can behind the former ice cream stand was burning. I won’t go throwing around any blame, but I have my guesses how that started. They said on the radio that the people at Sturms poured water on it and the fire was out. The funny part is that they parked the fire engine in front of the exit from the drive through and there was a car there getting something (probably beer). They just had to wait until the fire truck moved.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with the setup of the locations I am referring to and are confused by this blog’s title, let me elaborate. The drive thru where they parked the fire engine is directly behind the fire station, so basically they drove around in circles and ended up back at the fire station. Carissa and I got a kick out of that.
