By now most of you have experienced CAPTCHAs someplace on the internet. You may not know what they are called, but you’ve probably experienced them. They are the images on websites that contain text, that you, a human, must read and type into a box, so that the computer can tell if indeed you are human. Most of the time I am not annoyed by them, as I understand why they are necessary, and because they have never caused me problems in the past. Well that all ended tonight. I encountered this CAPTCHA while trying to post a comment on Brett’s MySpace Blog.
Come on MySpace, this is just about ridiculous. Not only did MySpace keep telling me I was reading it wrong, it went as far as to make me retype the comment every time I was wrong (I wised up MySpace, and kept copying and pasting my comment until I got the CAPTCHA right, so there, you aren’t going to get me down!!!) But seriously, that is some seriously bad web design. The first thing about requiring validation is that you keep the text that the user has already typed so that he or she doesn’t need to type it again. All of the web sites I design do it that way… It’s not that hard. Come on MySpace, get with the times!
What did the winning text turn out to be? I’m going with GTCMGWJH7. It makes me laugh even more knowing it was my blog that has inspired your blog even if it wasn’t intentional.
I think you were probably right. I was going with GTCMGWYH7. Perhaps that’s where I went wrong. I ended up refreshing it so I would get a different picture.
