So I’m sitting here tonight after one of the rougher nights we’ve had in a while. It’s not even over yet. As I type this April and Carissa are at the emergency room at Dunlap. Let’s see where to start. Rewind to last week sometime. Carissa went to the ear doctor to get extra “buildup” sucked out of her ears and while she was there they found a cyst on her eardrum and wanted to get a CAT scan this week to determine if it needed removed or not. No hint of an ear infection apparently though. So Saturday Carissa goes with Amanda and to the Ramada in Strasburg to do some swimming and overall fun. She was supposed to stay the night and come home mid-day Sunday, but Amanda called Sunday morning at 7:30 to say Carissa was whining that she had water in her ear and wanted to come home.
Turns out it wasn’t water, but a fun little ear infection. She sat around most of the day Sunday but seemed to be getting better. We decided to keep her home one more day from school today just to make sure she was better. Apparently she was doing much better today. I got home about 5:30 and it’s about that time things started going down hill. Carissa started moping around again about her ear. April needed to call a bunch of substitutes because of some stuff that got changed at the school. Carleigh started getting cranky. So I took Carleigh with me and made some dinner and did my best to entertain her while April did her thing. Carleigh was abnormally loud tonight. Not really crying but just loud. It was really getting annoying. Finally 7:00 rolled around… Time for Carleigh to eat. April was still calling, so I got her ready for bed and got a bottle ready. She really didn’t eat all that well because she fell asleep soon after she started eating. I put her to bed about 7:45. In the meantime, Carissa’s ear was getting worse. April put some medicine in her ear and she just laid here and cried for a while. Eventually I told her to lay down in her room and watch TV because she was going to fall asleep.
About 8:15 April decided to go to bed because she had to be up at 4:15. About 8:20 Carissa just started bawling in her room. I thought it was Carleigh at first. We brought her in the living room while we tried to decide what to do. She already had Tylenol in her, so that wasn’t an option. We were running out of options. At 8:30 Carleigh started screaming in her room. I let her go a few minutes to see if she would stop, but it was soon apparent that she wasn’t going to. I went in to see what was wrong and I touched her arm and it was soaked. I quickly felt around and her entire shirt was soaked. She apparently threw up virtually all of the bottle that she had. It was all over her clothes, her mattress, etc. I settled her down and found the “suckie thing” and cleared out her nose and what not. I cleaned her up and got her changed while April changed her sheets and stuff. While we were in her room Carissa came in crying again. “It hurts… It really hurts.”
So April got her dressed and loaded in the van and off to the Emergency Room they went. I made Carleigh another bottle and gave her some Infant Tylenol. She only drank about an ounce of her bottle and fell asleep again. Hopefully it was enough to keep her asleep for the rest of the night. Now I’m just waiting to see how Carissa is and enjoying the (probably temporary) silence.
That sucks, so how are things going now? I don’t miss the ER visits. Other than the reason we’re there all I can think about is $$$$$$$ down the drain. Now, did Carissa and Amanda stay at the Ramada or did they go there in the morning specifically for swimming? Amanda is known for her redneck ideas.
