Well, let’s see, where do I start. Classes let out for spring quarter on June 6th. The following week was finals week. I had one of the worst finals weeks ever, however I got though it with a decent GPA for the quarter. On Friday, June 13th, I attended Ohio State’s graduation because my roommate, Craig, graduated. I also went to listen to the guest speaker, Christopher Reeves, speak. I went with my brother and after Christopher Reeves spoke, we got quite bored quickly, so we left without seeing Craig graduate. Later that day we made the drive back home to Beach City. On Saturday, June 14th, I attended the Massillon car show with April. It was kind of cool seeing all of the old cars, but there were way to many people there. However, there was “fair” style food available, and my personal favorites, Dippin-Dots. That made the whole thing worth while. On Sunday I did a bunch of work for my dad and in the evening my Grandma had a dinner for father’s day. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were spent doing various maintenance projects at the store and Wednesday night I had to return to Columbus because of the upcoming trip to Michigan (keep reading). Since Ben had gone back to Columbus Sunday night (he had to start work) I had no vehicle to go back to Columbus with, so he and Craig drove back to Beach City so that we could all go back to Columbus. On Thursday night I went into work for the entire day and helped program some of the 300+ new switches we are rolling out on ResNet. We are replacing all of our Cisco Catalyst 2900’s with Catalyst 3500’s. It is costing the university around $1 million to do and is keeping us very busy. The new switches will allow us to rate limit each individual port so that no one user can “hog” all of the bandwidth. This will help in controlling the file sharing phenomenon and improving the overall quality of the ResNet experience. Another nice thing is that we will be able to slow down an individual user’s port should we find they are doing “bad” things on our network as sort of a punishment. Later this summer I will be writing the web interface that will allow us to control the individual ports from the internet rather than having to log into the individual switch with a text based interface to control the port. On Friday, my boss, two other co-workers and myself headed out on a 7 hour drive to Ferris State University located in Big Rapid’s Michigan to attend the 2003 Annual ResNet conference. We had submitted a proposal to do a presentation on Implementing successful In-House Development and were granted the presentation so we went up to do that presentation. We arrived on Friday night and checked into the hotel (Holiday Inn) and had a look around the town of Big Rapids, MI. THERE IS NOTHING TO DO THERE!!! Most of our time during the weekend was spend in our hotel rooms or at the conference. One of the perks of the conference was the free stuff that we received. I got a very nice backpack containing two t-shirts, a towel, a pint beer glass, a compass, and a bucket full of tooth cleaning type products. Oh and a small stuffed bulldog, the Ferris State mascot. I took my dad’s laptop with GPS receiver to help guide our way on the trip. On Sunday we presented our presentation. It went very well except my portion. I was supposed to demo the product we talked about during the presentation, but It didn’t work right (not really my fault). It was ok though, because we didn’t really have much time for demoing anyhow. This morning we packed up and headed back. We arrived back in Columbus about 5:00. That’s about all I’ve got for now.
