Well here it is, Saturday. The first Saturday since January 6th that I do not have ANYTHING to do. Not one thing at all. The quarter ended yesterday and on a pretty good note at that. I submitted our last 560 project about 1:30 AM yesterday, and then I went to bed. Then I got up around 8:00 and did my laundry and then I went to the 560 review. That was my only class yesterday so after that was over I came home and got the car and went and washed it. I figured I would contribute something to Ben and Craig’s vacation (They are going to Florida, but are driving and taking our car, so I thought I would be nice and wash it for them). Yesterday afternoon was nothing short of beautiful. I think it was like 52 degrees and the sun was out all day. After that I came home and checked to see if my ISE retake grade was posted. It was this grade that determined if I had to take the final. Well it was not posted yet, so I killed about an hour and checked again. The second time I checked it was posted and I got a 25/25, more than enough points to not have to take the final. That made me quite happy. Later that night I got Chinese from the place across the street. You would think I would have learned that it isn’t that good, but I thought I would give them another shot. Well it still wasn’t that good, but it was good enough. Then I just piddled around last night and that’s probably what I’ll do today. I definitely won’t start studying for finals until tomorrow so I will probably just play some CIV III or something.
I’m starting to regret sending my computer to Brewster because with nothing to do the past two days, I could have been assembling it and playing with it. However if it was here I probably would not do much studying for finals and I probably would have run out and purchased Sim City 4. It is because of Sim City 4 that I decided to buy a new computer in the first place. It won’t run on my current computer and I am a Sim City fanatic so that just wouldn’t do. Oh well.I’ll get to see it in a few days.
I tried to download LJ.NET this morning because I finally got the .NET framework installed (it [naturally] comes with Visual Studio .NET, so that’s where I got it). Anyhow, the site was down, so I am still using my crappy LJ client.
Finally this morning since the quarter is almost over I thought that I would share what all of those cryptic course numbers translate into (this might have something to do with Justin making fun of me in his post).
- Any references to 560 refer to my Programming project class. It is actually considered my third writing class because of the insane amount of writing (in the form of documentation) that we have to do. We had three projects in the class: a machine code simulator, a machine code assembler, and a machine code linker. Basically we were given an assembly language (by assembly language I mean a low level programming language) and had to write something that could simulate (execute), assemble and link something that was written in that language. My group had four people, three of which (including me) did most the work and in my opinion I did more than my fair share of work.
- Any references to 670 refer to my database class. It was a class on how to design and [somewhat] how to implement them. It was one of the more pointless classes I’ve taken here because everything we were taught I already knew.
- Any references to 459.23 refer to my Java class. It was even more pointless than the database class and was just downright stupid. The teacher (she wasn’t a prof) couldn’t speak English and didn’t give us any direction at all. She was just like here’s your assignment, do it. Luckily I’ve had Java before so it wasn’t that difficult, but the point of the class was to learn Java, and I don’t think that would have happened if I didn’t already know it.
- Any references to ISE or 504 refer to my Engineering Finance class. This class was all about finances and present worth and taxes and stuff like that with a emphasis on how this stuff is used in the Engineering field. It was very interesting because as Justin can testify to, I thoroughly enjoyed Accounting I and II in high school and this gave me the same satisfaction.
That’s about it for now. Like I said I don’t have anything to do today, so if I get bored enough and have something to write about, I will do just that. Chow.
I’m glad you “thoroughly enjoyed” taking a finance class. I liked finance so much I decided to make it the concentration of my MBA program. The thing that differentiates finance from accounting is all of the theories which work only when a series of highly unlikely assumptions are met. I doubt you studied the works of Miller and Modigliani, which I talked about last week in my journal, but they are very famous for a series of “propositions” which have no way of holding up in the real world because they assume “no taxation.”
Anyway, regarding LJ.NET. I love LJ.NET except for one thing. I have it set to automatically spell check before updating, however it will only strike-through the misspelled words, and will not offer suggestions to correct them. Thus, if the mistake is not obvious, I have to look the word up.
Hey Chris. This is Charlie. I don’t have a live journal username or anything cause I don’t have a free “code” or whatnot, and I refuse to pay for one. Anyway…
I just discovered another reason today is a good day. The Hampster Dance has returned!
