Well, my installation of Linux Mandrake didn’t last long. I was going to wait a while before installing RedHat 9 because the download mirrors have been really slow. However I found this program called BitTorrent which is essentially a peer to peer ISO file sharing system. I was able to download the three ISOs (~1.8GB) in under three hours. If I had been trying to use the mirrors, it would have taken days. So not even 24 hours after I installed Mandrake, I wiped it off and installed RedHat 9. Thus far I like it better than Mandrake, but other than installing pine (in order to get my pico editor, lol) I haven’t done much with it. I do however have the web server and ssh server working.
I signed up for an account at DynDNS,org. It gives me a free sub-domain name (something.homeip.net) that will point to my IP here at my apartment. So rather than remembering my IP, I can just type that in and get to my web server or ssh server or whatever here at my apartment..
That’s about it for today. Today is Ben’s 21st birthday, so a bunch of us are going out for lunch with him. Some of his more dedicated friends took him out last night to utilize his new ID after midnight and are apparently going out again tonight. I however chose to only partake in the lunch outing. Anyhow, Happy Birthday Ben.
