Wow my third post of the day, I think this is a new record.
I just wanted to let everyone know I am working on a utility that will go through all of your live journal posts and create a file that contains them all because I am paranoid about storing all this information on a server I don’t control and can’t make backups of. This will allow you to have a file of all of your journal entries in case live journal goes out of business or something. I will keep an update going of where I am with the project on here. Tonight I started playing with the protocol to talk to the live journal server and it looks promising. I was also considering a statistics calculator type applet that would allow you to see stats like the day you posted the most posts and stuff like that. Let me know if there is any interest in either of those projects.
I’m off to watch Clone High and then to bed. Lata.
What you plan on doing sounds like a lot of work. What I do to archive my entries, in the event LiveJournal goes under, is to periodically cut and paste the entries into a Word document. That is how I am able to search for the times I mention a particular hottie in my journal. This would be difficult to use in the event I would lose the data online, however at least I have the data somewhere. I have all entries dating back to August 2001 archived. It amounts to 2.78 MB and 183 pages, should I ever be stupid enough to print it.
